This week in speech we are reading The Three Bears by Paul Galdone to go with our family/manners theme. This week we are working on comprehending and identifying BIG, MEDIUM, and LITTLE and sorting objects/characters/etc into these categories. In centers, we will be working on vocabulary, describing, and requesting. We will also complete a sorting activity with items found in our story. In addition, we will continue to discuss the concepts of Who is in our story, Where our story takes place, and How do the characters in our story feel? We will incorporate Braidy the Story Braid puppet to help visualize these concepts. Suggested activities to complete with your child to incorporate both language enhancing strategies and articulation practice include:
1. Go to the Speech Room News blog and use the resources there to continue talking about our story this week. It includes many activities that will work on describing actions, answering questions, sequencing, sorting by size and same/different, and pronouns, to name a few. The link is http://thespeechroomnews.com/2012/12/goldilocks-3-bears-book-companion.html
2. Included in the folder is a sizing activity. You and your child can cut these cards out and practice identifying big, medium, and little for each item. While completing this activity, you can use the pictures as prompts for having your child retell the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
3. Here are the characters from our story. Use the above size sorting activity along with the characters to practice retelling the story.
4. Review vocabulary from our unit.
**Use these activities to practice articulation for target sounds. If your child says his/her target sound incorrectly, take the opportunity to repeat back what your child said and over emphasize the target sounds. Talk about how your child can HEAR the sounds produced and can LOOK in a mirror to watch their mouth produce the sounds.
