2009 Launch Schedule
Thursday May 7
08:45 AM – 09:10 AM
The Astronaut Walk. The Astronaut Crew will be escorted by the School Safety Patrol and the Closeout Crew through the hallways and to Intrepid.
09:20 AM – 10:30 AM
Team A mans their consoles in the Flight Control Room. Closeout of the Astronaut Crew in the simulator is complete around
10:00
Preflight checks and prelaunch procedures completed.
10:30 AM – 11:15 AM
Liftoff at 10:30 followed by the Orbiter's ascent into orbit
11:15 AM
On-orbit operations begin. This is the phase of the mission where things will slow down and the crew will open the payload bay doors and begin conducting their experiments and preparing for satellite deployment. Anytime you choose to observe there is bound to be something exciting going on.
This phase will continue throughout the night and into Friday.
01:15 PM – 01:45 PM
Intermediate Lesson From Space over the closed circuit
Friday May 8
09:20 AM - 09:40 AM Primary Lesson From Space broadcast over the closed circuit.
09:40 AM – 10:30 AM
Video Tour of Intrepid conducted from space by the Astronaut Crew. This will include a Question and Answer session in which a student from each classroom will be able to communicate directly with the crew via radio.
12:00
The Intrepid will reenter the Earth’s atmosphere and lose radio communication for 12 minutes as it begins its 30-minute glide to a landing at Kennedy Space Center Shuttle Landing Facility.
12:30 Intrepid touchdown.
12:34 PM – 12:50 PM Complete post flight procedures
12:50 PM Astronaut Crew is helped out of the Shuttle by the Recovery Crew.
1:15 – 1:30 Post-Mission Homecoming Celebration and Press Conference Assembly in the lunchroom.
All times indicated above are approximate. Changes in the schedule are a normal ongoing part of spaceflight operations.
On Launch Day and during the rest of the mission, no one is allowed in the simulator.
